How to Read a New Book Without Buying a New Book

It all starts with Costco, and, really, they are practically asking you to do it, with their fancy displays of comfy couches and their books. Mr. M. likes to slowly and thoughtfully peruse and play with all the new techie gadgets at Costco. So I head straight for the book section. There was a book a few years back, The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands by Dr. Laura Schlessinger. I casually read the back cover and the inside flaps, and found the book interesting-but not interesting enough to give it a permanent place on my bookshelf with its limited room, and not interesting enough to take home and have to drive it to the Salvation Army when I was done with it. I picked up a copy (one of many), and found the comfiest couch on display, and read until Mr. M. came to tell me he was ready to go. Thinking quickly, I got a small notepad out of my purse, and noted down the page number where I left off. We were at Costco the next week, same routine. This exact scenario was repeated until I was done with the book. I figure Dr. Laura doesn't really need the money, anyway. I don't think she's hurting.
