Back to School

So, I am now officially part of a cultural immersion program. Am I going abroad? Well, only if you consider UCLA in Westwood abroad. The culture I will studying is Asian. Mr. M and I will be on staff at the UCLA Bible Study, Grace On Campus. We are currently taking lessons in Asian culture . . . well, we are making an effort to get to know the students, and they tell us about their culture. (99% of the Bible Study is Asian.) This prompts us to look into our own culture, and ask ourselves why we do what we do, where and when we do it, and why we think the way we do. We came to the unanimous agreement that American culture is very independant. From the pilgrims to the pioneers, Americans have always done what they wanted, trying not to depend on anyone. That's what we came up with. I'd love to know what you think, either about American culture or Asian culture, especially if you are a Korean man living in the OC, going by the name of one Mr. Cho.

I think American culture is what's giving Obama fits right now, because at the core we're a bunch of individualists who can't STAND being told what do to. We're not collectivists, and are generally looking out for number one (until something threatens all of us, at which point we're circle the wagons like nobody's business).

We're like a bunch of Scottish clans who enjoy killing each other until the English arrive and force us to work together.

Americans don't have an independent streak!

I am saying that JUST to express my mavericky take on this JUST TO BE DIFFERENT. So you no longer have a unanimous agreement on this.

ALL BECAUSE OF ME!

Beg to differ, Mr. Cho, but you weren't part of the original vote, so we Ms still maintain our unanimity.

The "vote" was obviously rigged. How "American" is that?

Oh, you hit the nail on the head!

Have fun with your new UCLA ventures. I believe Amanda makes up that 1% that is not Asian. :)
