Wonderful Wednesday.
Today I celebrate. It is no holiday. It is just a day, a bright, sunny day. It is the day that the Lord has made. And I have a hankering to walk down to Starbucks later and try a tall raspberry mocha while I sit in the sun reading about poetry. Within my happiness, I do not deny that there is misery in the world. I know my friend is dying of cancer, and it makes me sad . . . but I also know that God is sovereign and good. I know that people are starving in Africa (and here), but once again my faith in God allows me to enjoy my life and thank God for all the beautiful gifts He's given me. Today, I celebrate. Today I will not worry about my husband driving (as I usually do), today I will not think about "what ifs." I will take a walk in the sun, have a cool drink, and thank God for all the good gifts I have and pray honestly about the scary things.

The Poetry Wars.
I was so inspired by Wordsmithy to branch out in my literary endeavors, that I ordered a college textbook on poetry, for the sole purpose of homeschooling myself in the subject. I have also brought together a group of friends, some new to poetry, some already amazing poets, to share poems and ideas with each other. I feel quite artsy and hip being part of a poetry circle. It really changes everything, getting out there and trying something new, especially when you have some good friends who will join with you in your new endeavors.

A Political Soapbox
I hate to do it, but I just have to. I have to say something about politics. Mr. M and I watch a show about a man who is the supervisor of many low-rent apartments in Nebraska. So far, 100% of the tenants are on one form of government aid or another. The vast majority use illegal drugs. Basically, the government is buying drugs for these people, creating medical problems that the taxpayers will then have to pay for. I hear any mention of accountability is certain to incite the wrath of many, but I am totally for it. Having to send in receipts for rent, utilities, food and other necessities is a good idea. It would be good for the government to know what they are paying for. This would discourage those who want to buy drugs from doing so, and it would be a help to the honest people on welfare who are actually working towards being able to live independently.

A Matter of Perspective
I saw my friends' daughter the other night. I told her she looked just like her mother. Even as the words were coming out of my mouth, I felt my throat constrict under the pressure and awkwardness of the situation. "You look just like your mother?!??" That's what all the old ladies at church had always said to me when I was little! Had the tables turned? Had I become an old lady? I guess it all depends who you ask.

Writing: Thoughts and Rules
I am currently reading Wordsmithy by Douglas Wilson. (I'm also reading A Family Living Under the Sahara Sun, but that's beside the point.) The thing I like about Wilson's book is that he loves writing and writers and readers, and he wants his readers to write because they love it and because they love sharing their thoughts with their readers. He writes about the rules of grammar, but urges writers not to get bogged down or bent out of shape by them. The important thing is to know how to convey your thoughts and how best to make yourself understood. If you have to end a sentence with a preposition to make your point, then so be it. It is more important to share your thoughts than to follow the rules. It's the spirit of the law that counts. Jeff Deck makes the same point in The Great Typo Hunt. Don't get me wrong, I love the rules, but I know I need to occasionally break them for the greater good.

This Guy's Brother Married My Cousin!
This weekend, Mr. M. and I went to a family reunion, and in talking to a distant relative, we found that he and his wife had, unbeknownst to us, attended the same church as us for a while. They both looked familiar, and our church is pretty big, so we weren't too surprised, but we wonder if there are any other people at church that we are distantly related to.

A Place for Laughing out Loud.
I am sometimes introspective and pensive. Other times, though, I can only throw my arms up in the air with abandon and laugh out loud . . . and I want to share those laughing times with my friends and blog readers. I enjoy knowing that I can boost my readers' immunity, and lower their blood pressure and cortisol levels. By laughing at my silly stories, my readers will benefit from an increased tolerance for pain. Plus, laughing is just plain fun!
In my efforts to get more exposure for my blog, I've created miniature versions of my blog on several blog hosting sites. These are just a few select posts, the elite, if you will. It is a nice change to write for my own blog (affectionately known as TALoM) as a gift to my friends and readers. The way I see it is this: the "best of The White Wave" posts that I put on the 3 meta-blog sites is me, in a dress, at church, listening to a sermon. All the posts that I write here are me, in my sweats, at home, watching The Kardashians. This blog, my blog, TALoM, is a complete representation of me and all the various thoughts that run through my head during the day.
TALoM is my heart, the sharing of my life with my friends. A few readers have followed my life in prose for the entire 6 years that I've been blogging, others have just recently joined me in my literary adventures. To all of you, I say thanks for sharing my adventurous life!
If you are new to The Adventurous Life of Mine, and you like what you see, please feel free to become a follower so that you can come back and make yourself at home here.

Why I Love Biblical Counseling
Psalm 19:7a "The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul."
"reviving the soul"-restoring life to a soul that has lost its life.
I have seen the life sucked out of a soul by sin and disobedience. Misery comes to fill the void. It is a sad sight, a miserable soul. That is not what God intended. He came that we might have abundant life. (John 10.) God desires our good (Jeremiah 29:11), but we can only access the good and abundant life He has for us when we obey Him.
People whose souls are filled with misery due to direct disobedience to, or ignorance of, God's law, need to be set free through His perfect law. That is the only way misery of the soul can be replaced with abundant life.
