Getting prepared
I haven't written for a while, as Mr. M, Rufus and I have been busy preparing to summit Mt. Everest. I have been spending 7 hours a day walking around the neighborhood with my harmonica strapped to my back to get used to the extra weight. Gradually, I will add a clarinet, a trumpet, a French horn, and eventually a tuba to the weighty brass musical equipment on my back. Rufus, even with no added weight, has been having a hard time walking for 7 hours straight. He always has the option to opt out, but we have already ordered him a customized pair of Uggs with crampons for his podiatrical comfort on the trek. Mr. M and I have also been sleeping on the roof to acclimatize our lungs to the thin air.

It would be an interesting picture, you going up Mount Everest with all those instruments--where you can perhaps make quite a joyful noise to the Lord, and have it be heard from who knows how far away!
Let us know how your progress is going. I'm impressed with the idea and the effort, and bemused by the method!
LOL! Don't over do it ;) Getting on that roof to experience the thin air may be living life a bit too dangerously.
Remember to take a French horn no matter what you have to leave behind. It makes very sweet music. (I used to play one. Then I had something like a stroke. Maybe in heaven I will be able to play again.)
Did I mention that Mr.M is walking around with drums and other percussive instruments? We'd like to set up a musical academy up there. So far, though, Mr.M has only been walking with his drumsticks in his hands-although he does twirl them, which makes up for the lack of weight. The coordination will be necessary.
I want to come! I'll bring the pipes God gave me too so I can make a joyful noise with you! Runyan Canyon was a good practice hike! Love you!
Funny! How do you prepare for scuba diving? Try to remember not to jump off the roof.
It's got to be awfully cold up on the roof this time of year. I'll join you and Chela...can't play, but I'll sing!
Actually, David, we plan to do some scuba diving while wer'e up there (I hear there's a deep and warm mineral springs pool at the summit), so we prepare for that by holding our breath underwater in the Jacuzzi for as long as we can, along with trying to swim underwater with a small child on our back.
