Politics and Religion, or Things That Make You Go, "HMmm."
I don't normally watch the news, but as I took a personal day yesterday, I did catch a few minutes. A large group of people was protesting outside of the Mormon temple in L.A. Apparently, the Mormon church gave a lot of money to support Prop. 8. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Mormon church institute the practice of polygamy? That seems just as unpalatable to me as gay marriage. A bit hypocritical, if you ask me. And what about Mitt Romney? Why did he want to be president? Um, don't the Mormons, like, hate us (Americans) and our government? Am I wrong in my understanding that Joseph Smith and his merry little band of followers fled to Utah to flee the American government and our laws?

I don't think I could put homosexuality on the same level as polygamy. Homosexuality is abhorrent to God, a judgment in itself. Polygamy is wrong, yes, but it doesn't go against creation. Even some of the Patriarchs had multiple wives. That's not a justification of it as right, but that it isn't the same level of wrong.
In fact, if there were a polygamist who converted to Christianity, I don't think it would be right to have him divorce his wives (and pick one) and leave the rest to the world. It's a tangled mess, to be sure, but there is a real union there. Just thinking out loud. But if any of them remarried, why would that not be adultery? So should they remain single?
The other is unnatural and God has turned His back on a culture, to some extent, for their ingratitude when it starts to dominate.
neetm wrote that last one! Sorry, I meant to give some signature.
I knew who it was. Thanks for your thoughts.
