Look Like a Runner, Be a Runner . . . or at least a Walker. My Year of Running.

I was a runner for a year. I decided to do one 5k a month for a year. (That's 12 5ks.) I did train a little . . . a very little. I practiced by running a fourth of a mile a couple of times a week. Need I say I wasn't aspiring to the Olympics? I just wanted to have a hobby to talk about. Before my first 5k, I began serious training. The first step was to go to the thrift store and buy old 5k t-shirts so that no one would know this was my first 5k. (After I got home and looked more closely at the shirts, I realized that one was from a 5k that took place when I was 3 years old.)

I did my one year, and now I walk. I walk often, for fun and for fitness. As with most things in my life, I over-think walking. Walking demonstrates my commitment to physical fitness, but the fact that I am usually walking to some eating establishment demonstrates that I am not obsessed with physical fitness. I am obsessed with looking like a serious walker. I bought a pair of ridiculously bright orange running shoes, and I was excited to go for my inaugural walk in Pleasant Hill. (Home of Murderer's Creek.) To tie back in to my last post, as much as I enjoy walking, I enjoy it 10 times more when I'm with a friend. Any volunteers? We can walk to the local ice cream shop.
