Remembering Selena

Unless you listened to Spanish radio in the 90s, you probably only know Selena Quintanilla by the movie made after her death, wherein she was played by Jennifer Lopez. I, though, did listen to Spanish radio-a lot-in the 90s, driving my big yellow Caravan all over the valley, and studying Spanish and child psychology. I was also dating Mr. M at the time. When the news of Selena's murder broke, Mr. M and I were engaged. Selena was engaged at the time she was murdered. She was just 3 years older than I; we could have been great friends, bonded by the joy of future marriage to our men. I didn't know her, didn't even live in the same state, but I was deeply saddened by her death. These 16 fun years with the man I love, she missed that. The man who would have married Selena has written a book about her and about them, and that book is en route to my mailbox even now.
Is there any news story that is special to you by its having happened at a very memorable time in your life?
