Surprised After 16 years.
Mr. M and I, as is highly usual, went out for dinner tonight. Also highly usual was Mr. M's desire to stroll through the hardware store after dinner. Thankfully for those of us who don't consider a stroll through the hardware store to be a pleasant way to end an evening, there is a Starbucks close by. So, as we do pretty regularly, Mr. M and I parted ways, he going to the hardware store, me going somewhere that wouldn't make me cry and whine and buckle my knees like a child. Before I even set my bag down, I had my phone out, going through the list of names, looking for a qualified person to keep me company. The qualifications were as follows: 1. Someone who likes coffee (or at least I assume they do). 2. Someone who lives within a reasonable distance. 3. Someone I like. 4. Someone whose name and number is in my phone. 5. Someone who would be willing to go out for coffee after 8 pm. (Interesting list. Do I have the names and numbers of people I don't like in my phone? Hmmm . . . something to think about.) Well, Someone came, but only after Mr. M had caught me totally off guard by emerging from the hardware store after only a completely reasonable amount of time. History has shown me that he has the ability to be completely entertained looking at power tools and wires for hours on end; so it was weird to see him. I had planned on being by myself out in the cold, so I ordered a hot drink and got comfy outside. That is when Mr. M made his appearance. For one reason or another, he wanted to go inside. Ugh! Hot, noisy . . . who would ever want to go inside when outside is available? Now I wanted an iced drink, but I had already paid premium for my white chocolate mocha (decaf, no whipped cream.) Soon, our friend showed up and sat with us inside. We all had a grand time, talking about speakers and wires and pets that are illegal in California. It was an unexpected night, but a fun one. I guess the moral of the story (if there is a moral and if this is a story) is that it's better to have two friend than one. And I need to add a few more names and numbers to my cell phone list, as this isn't the first time Mr. M has left me to my own devices, and it won't be the last.
