Anglophilia, the Love of England

I notice that there is prevalent in our American society the thought that culture and intellect can only be found in England and in Europe. I confess to having thought this myself at times. Despite the relative youth of America, we have a rich history of our own. There is always something to be learned about our own history and our national heroes, and there is much to learn about current events and contemporary thinkers and authors. There is a certain type of pride in thinking that American culture isn't cultured enough for you. I am not at all putting down England or Europe; I'm just saying America is nothing to sneeze at.
