Books and Ellipticycles
The good news is that I got a new book. The bad news is that I got sick. Of course, getting sick could also be construed as good news since it means that I get to sit on the couch and read all day, which is exactly how I wanted to spend this last day of vacation. The book is Confessions of a Counterfeit Farm Girl by Susan McCorkindale. Reading this is like coming up for air after being submerged in the dark pit of Mormon theology I've been reading. It is really, really interesting, that Mormon theology, and studying it has sharpened my faith in and knowledge of the Bible, and studying the lying and murdering Mormon leaders has made me so grateful for the truth-telling, gentle leaders of Bible teaching churches. Anyhow . . . Confessions of a Counterfeit Farm Girl is about an uprooted Jersey girl who leaves her job in the city to move to a rural farm in Virginia. This makes me wonder how I would fare in a similar situation. Could I live somewhere where I wasn't a short walk away from two Starbucks? I'm sure I could, but it would be hard. I know people who've left their American homes for far off countries, and God's taken care of them. I am convinced that He would take care of me if I had to move to another country or state or even across town. I think you can see that I am intrigued by the idea of moving somewhere new, but I would hate to experience it firsthand. I'm not even a big fan of extended vacations. I love road trips, and I'm more than willing to spend any amount of time in a destination that can be reached by auto. I did find one redeeming thing about this week's flight, though-the Ellipticycle sold in Sky Mall magazine. It is like an elliptical machine that you use outdoors, and you are propelled forward. There is a great trail not far from my house that would be ideal. I fall asleep each night thinking about the pros and cons of the Ellipticycle. It is expensive, but if this is my mid-life crisis, it's a lot less expensive than a convertible sports car.
