Why Do Normal Things Happen to Normal People?

Maybe a better question is, "Why do we keep asking that question (or some version of it)?" Any interaction with other humans will prove to you that health, wealth and happiness is the exception and not the rule. Heartache surrounds us. As a Christian, I believe that every trial we face is custom-made for us, for our good, by our loving God. There is a purpose in everything. We may never know the purpose behind our trials, though. That is when we need to exercise our faith, and believe that truth even when we can't see the benefit of a particular trial. On the other hand, some of the purposes behind our trials may be revealed to us eventually. 10 years ago, I was often home-bound due to illness. The long days were sad and lonely. I didn't know why God kept me in that state. Just last week, my friend KhakiPants broke her leg and was unable to leave her home. She was bored and restless. Because of my past trial, I understood KhakiPants perfectly and was able to sympathize with her feelings. I knew that the thing that I wanted most on those long, lonely days was just for someone to come sit with me; so I was able to do that for KhakiPants. There may be more reasons for my trial yet to be discovered; I don't know, but I do know this: God is always good.
