F.S. #10, A Friendship Story for a Navy Wife

I realize most of my friendships were born in my teens and twenties. For army and navy wives, and wives of pastors and missionaries, and a lot of other women, that will be a rare blessing. So, as I sat outside enjoying our unseasonably cool summer, I thought of a recent friend I made . . . and lost. (Don't worry, it's not sad. I only lost her to another state after her husband finished seminary.) I met Marie at a womens Bible study. I saw her pretty regularly at church. I also saw her monthly at the womens Bible study where we met. We talked, a little at first, and then more and more. Suddenly, I caught wind that she was moving-and soon! Happily and unexpectedly, a friend of mine in the desert was also a friend of Marie's, and had invited her on our coffee date. I was so excited! (You can read all about our unique ventures into the underground world of desert coffee houses in a post from about a month ago.) We had a blast. And now Marie is gone. Through the magic of the interweb, though, we can exchange our thoughts here and there. So the lesson for you nomadic, army, navy, missionary and pastoral people is that it is always a blessing to invest in a friendship, even if you know it will be temporary.
