This is what's happening: a lot! Our home is once again in a massive state of discombobulation due to getting some new windows and doors . . . which would be fine, but one of the doors didn't come in, so we must either remain discombobulated for a while, or we can put our furniture back and recombobulate our home and discombobulate it all over again later by moving the furniture for a second time. Also, we just got back from a trip to Pleasant Hill, CA, a quaint and cozy town and also the home of Murderer's Creek. While we were away, I bought some fancy new walking shoes and walked 6 miles each day. Today, a wonderful friend let Rufus and I crash at her house for a few hours so that we'd be out of the way of the window workers. Also, Mr. M and I have separate meetings down by the sea tonight, and we are going separate ways tomorrow night, he to the sea and me to the desert.
Anyhow, while we were gone, a book I ordered came: The Power of a Positive Friend by Karol Ladd. In the introduction (which is quickly becoming my favorite part of any book), she quotes Thomas Aquinas: " . . . without friends, even the most agreeable tasks become tedious." We all know that I love to write. I love the smell of paper, and the feel of pens. But I don't know that I'd enjoy writing half as much if I didn't have friends to share my writing with. I think I enjoy hearing from a friend that my story made her laugh even more than I enjoyed writing the story in the first place. Fun isn't that fun when you're having it alone. I loved walking around Pleasant Hill, and I LOVED Murderer's Creek. I loved it because I knew I'd get to come home and tell my friends the funny story of buying bright orange walking shoes and walking 6 miles because the town was so cute I couldn't bring myself to go back to the hotel, and how I passed a house that had a box of free stuff on the driveway, so I got a free cowboy hat and now I have two spare cowboy hats in case I lose my original. I also love to read, and part of that is having something fun to talk about with my friends. I always choose books that will make for good conversation starters. I'm going to go read now, so that I will have some new ideas to talk about tonight with my dinner date, and I'm also taking my new walking shoes with me so we can walk by the sea after dinner and I'll find new things to write about. What is your favorite activity to share with friends?

It's hard to choose a FAVORITE activity to share with friends, but it would have to include talking about things that matter most, and laughing, and some kind of a project. Coffee must be present as well.
Who can talk about important things WITHOUT coffee present?!
