Costumes, Movies, and Bearded Dragons

I've just gotten home from an outdoor screening of "The Black Stallion." My dad took me to see the movie when I was young, and I think that he was always a bit disappointed that I didn't want a horse, like so many little girls do. I think that he wanted to use me to get a horse (because my mom would probably have let him get a horse if he could convince her that it was for me, and that I really wanted it.) Unfortunately for him, I never obliged by wanting a horse. Enough about that, though. At the home of our hosts tonight, I met the family pet, a bearded dragon named Thike, a combination of Thor and Strike. The kids couldn't come to a unanimous agreement on the name, so Mom, wise like Solomon, combined the two names to form Thike. That was the most diplomatically named bearded dragon I have ever met. Since "The Black Stallion" has its first scenes aboard a boat in Africa, those in the know wore turbans and big, clunky jewelry. There is just something about being in costume that really makes you feel absorbed in the movie. I took a short siesta in the sun today, and to keep the sun out of my eyes, I wore a cowboy hat at an angle on my face. After waking from my siesta, I left the hat on, and watched "Dust to Glory", a documentary about the Baja 1000, an off-road race along the beaches and through the deserts of Baja. My cowboy hat made me feel like I was there, one of many spectators running through the open course. I wonder if I would have felt like a driver if I had worn Mr. M's racing helmet. Now it is time to put on my sleeping cap and get ready for tomorrow, the one day of the week I let myself read Saturday Night, and then Sunday, the only day that I get my special Sunday drink at Starbucks.
