Monday Morning Memories

1. When I was a toddler, my mom was in her early 40s. One summer day, some of my aunts and cousins were over at our house in one of the more hilly and rural areas of Los Angeles. As we all laughed and played on the front porch, a duck was seen walking down the street. My mom and some other relatives began to chase it. I stayed back, but cheered on my mom by yelling, "Go, Mama, go!" I guess it wasn't until that point that she realized the full ridiculousness of the scenario, because she gave up the race and doubled over laughing. Even years and years later, when she finally got a computer of her own, one of her passwords was, "Go Mama, go!"

2. After Sunday school one day, my mom took me and my baby in a basket shopping. When the cashier asked me the name of my baby, my mom said I looked at her as if she should've known, and said, "He's Moses in the bulrushes."

It is really comforting to know that while my mom was still alive, I made her laugh. Maybe that is why I so enjoy making people laugh.

When my daughter was small, she played with stuffed animals, but not dolls. She had two, twins that her gramma had given her. After learning about baby Moses at Bible school, she played with the BOY baby doll to the point that I had to buy him new outfits. And a doll stroller. And lots of other accouterments. I felt sorry for the girl baby doll.
