The Power and Joy of Simple Things

Mr. M is washing his car. I sat on the porch for a few minutes and watched him. Watching Mr. M was his car always makes me nostalgic; it makes me remember that awful day years ago when we were still experimenting with different drugs and different dosages. My health was very unstable, and I would sometimes be unable to leave the house for days at a time. At the end of one of these long days, Mr. M decided to wash his car. Tired of being inside, I went to the porch to watch him. The sun was setting, and it cast a beautiful orange glow on the brick wall at the side of our house. I just enjoyed being outside, with the sunset, listening to Mr. M's classic rock. When the car was done, Mr. M suggested we go for a drive. We drove through town, and we went to a fast food drive thru for dinner. We've shared a lot of romantic meals together, but that one stands out most vividly in my memory. My health is a lot more stable now, but I still never miss an opportunity to watch Mr. M wash his car and remember that special car-washing evening.
