What Have I Got to Lose?

There are so many things in life I am so afraid to lose. It scares me almost to death to think of losing Mr. M. When I make a new friend, the excitement I feel at having made a new friend is overshadowed by the fear of losing them. This is a result of putting my hope in the wrong place. I should put my hope in the things I can't lose: my salvation and my eternal home in Heaven. 2 Corinthians 4:18 tells us that everything we can see is temporal-that includes family, friends, houses, jobs, kids. The important and lasting things are things we can't see-the salvation of our souls, life in Heaven, God's surpassing peace. I get so caught up in the fear of losing what I have that I forget to be thankful for it. Instead of looking to what may or may not happen in the future, I should be thankful for what I have now. I have many things to be thankful for, some of them eternal, and some temporal. I need to replace my fear with thankfulness. "My heart and my flesh may fail; but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever." (Psalm 73:26.) I am so thankful for the temporal things that I have in my life now-a good house, Mr.M, good friends and family, but I am so very grateful for the eternal blessings that I cannot lose-salvation in Christ and a Heavenly home. What are you thankful for now?

I can totally relate to this post. I think sometimes we're *too* aware of the uncertainty of life... and we try to hold on to things (people) just a little more tightly than we ought. Thanks for this excellent reminder.
And right now... I'm thankful for my wonderful husband, for heat on a cold night, for a comfortable bed and a roof that (mostly) keeps us dry, and for friends who pray for each other.

I applaud you for sharing your fears with the world! It incites others to do the same and have closer, meaningful relationships as we encourage one another! THANKS!
