A Life of Ease
Mr. M and I are with family, vacationing at an oceanside resort. Some would say we are "living the life"; but this life of ease doesn't sit well with me. I'm not saying that this short vacation is unpleasant; it's been a great time to be reminded of God's love for me, which can easily get forgotten in the busyness of everyday life, and it's a wonderful opportunity to indulge in hours of uninterrupted reading, and being lulled to sleep each night by the gentle sound of waves breaking on the beach is nothing to sneeze at. Mr. M was asked to write a devotional study for our college Bible study, and helping him edit his article was a highlight and an honor. This morning, we went for a zip line tour. One of our guides asked a young lady in our group about her life's passions. (They were all sports related.) I wondered how I would have answered that question. I would have named writing as my passion, but my reading provides me with so much fuel for writing, I don't know if I could separate the two. I am currently reading a book on the historical revelations of Christianity, plus a book about religious fanatics and fundamentalists who follow their faith even when it calls them (so they say) to violence, and also a humor book by Dave Barry. Having a wide variety of interesting books gives me a sense of balance. I feel Godly reading about Christian history, I feel smart reading about obscure religious cults, and I feel funny and entertaining reading a book of humor stories. I like to grow and learn on vacation, and not just take it easy. The more I can learn and reflect, the more relaxed I am. (Of course, the midday naps help, too!)
