God's Faithfulness to David, Mephibosheth, and Me
I have begun a study on the life of David, and I've been recently studying David's friendship with Jonathan. One thing that stands out to me is the generational aspect of their friendship, when they make their covenant that includes not only themselves, but also their descendants. (1 Sam. 20:42.) When both Jonathan and his father Saul are killed in battle, David takes Jonathan's son into his own home to care for him as if he were his own. I think this is especially meaningful to me, having no children of my own, and also having lost my mom. I am so glad, not only for the intimate friendships I have in the church, but also for my friends' kids, and for my friends' moms. Some of my favorite promises from the Psalms are those where God promises to settle the barren woman in her home as the happy mother of many, and a similar promise where God says He will set the lonely in families. I have experienced this many times in my life. God is a most faithful keeper of promises.
