The Facts of Life
In reading Flickering Pixels, I am reminded of social media's ability to force on you unwanted, unsolicited and unpleasant information. Many years ago, a kind man started reading my blog. He and his family went to church in one of our favorite vacation towns. Over time, he mentioned his wife less and less, and eventually he told me he was leaving her for another woman. I was heartbroken. This one thing really opened my eyes to the very real and ever-present evil in this world. I could reject all social media and fill my world with only that which is good, noble and praiseworthy, but then I would be losing out on a lot of good things, like the genuine friendships I've made using social media. I guess The Facts of Life theme song is right when it says, "You take the good, you take the bad, and there you have, the facts of life . . . the facts of life."
