Friends and Differences

There are (thankfully!) many different gifts in the body of Christ, but only one Body, one Spirit, and one God. When we spend time with a younger Christian, what we want to do is to encourage them to be more like Christ. Did you get that? More like Christ . . . not more like you. Eph. 2:10 tells us that God planned exactly how we'd serve Him. Some will do this, some will do that. Some will clean the house, and some will just be patient listeners and enthusiastic learners. So, when someone is helping in a way that doesn't seem very helpful to you, you should check your own heart. Are you sovereign? You are not God, and you don't know all the details, nor have you planned from eternity past the predetermined roles of other Christians. God's made His plan. You don't need to worry about how someone else will serve in the Body; you just need to do what He's called you to do. (John 21:22.) Following Jesus will look different for every one: the 12th chapter of 1 Corinthians assures us of that. Whether you make a meal for someone or wear a bigfoot costume just to make them laugh, do it all to the glory of God, and seek to please Him.
