Reading Rewards

Today is a good day; I finished a book I didn't like.  I made myself finish it, but I had to bribe myself by promising myself that once I finished it (the book I didn't like, not the book in the picture), I could order another book that I want to read.  Well, I finished that book I didn't like, and also I got in the mail this book that I have been looking forward to getting since March, when I preordered it.  I've read other books by this author, and if I had more money, I might pay her to be my friend.  (She actually has written to me in response to a thank you note I sent her for an especially fun and meaningful story she included in one of her other books.)  Well, I'm going to go and order that other book I want since I finished that book I didn't like, and in the meantime, I'm going to read this book.  I think it's going to be a good summer.

So...when I don't like a book, I drop reading it because that leaves time for more of the good books in the world. What made you decide to finish it? I'm intrigued. Do I have a book reading character flaw? I guess I could be called a "Quitter." You are a "Finisher," apparently! I hope you enjoy your new book; judging by its cover, it should be upbeat, fun, and rewarding.

Have you ever been hiking and feeling hot and dirty, but you keep going because you optimistically think that there might be an AMAZING view around the next bend? Call it optimism or call it stubbornness or call it, like my mom would, stick-to-it-iveness.

And my current reading actually made me think of you when it talks about the importance of inter-generational friendships. Because you are so much younger than I.

Yeah, younger...you're losing credibility but gaining charm. :) I do get that about the next bend, though I have to say even on the best hikes, I'm the one thinking, "Can we go home now?" even as we just have gotten started. Perhaps it's because I'm short-legged and know that it will be 3x the hike for me that it is for everyone else and every log in the path (others would call them sticks) is a big ordeal. So it may be with books, though I'm having a hard time figuring the correlation to short legs; maybe short patience.

I find that charm will get you far in life.
