"reviving the soul"-restoring life to a soul that has lost its life.
I have seen the life sucked out of a soul by sin and disobedience. Misery comes to fill the void. It is a sad sight, a miserable soul. That is not what God intended. He came that we might have abundant life. (John 10.) God desires our good (Jeremiah 29:11), but we can only access the good and abundant life He has for us when we obey Him.
People whose souls are filled with misery due to direct disobedience to, or ignorance of, God's law, need to be set free through His perfect law. That is the only way misery of the soul can be replaced with abundant life.
