I've been reading Quiet by Susan Cain, and thinking about how I relate to others, whether I am an introvert or an extrovert. I was talking about this with a friend today, and telling her that I wasn't sure, but I'd consider myself an introvert. Sensing my hesitation and uncertainty, she asked, "Except . . . ?" I answered, "Except that I like to go out all the time and be with people."
On a more serious note, though, the author does say that introverts enjoy small talk just as much as extroverts. The difference, she says, is that extroverts start with small talk before bringing up anything heavy, whereas introverts dive right into talking about deeper things first and then talk about the weather and sports and other chit-chatty topics.
