The Positive Example of Persnicketta, or Thank You, God, For Joy

If you're anything like everyone else in the world, you've had a friend let you down at least once.  It's easy to wallow in the mire of self-pity and dwell on your hurt feelings.  It's so easy to forget that you have so many good friends who've done such good things for you.  Too often, we overlook that which is right in our lives, just so we can dwell on the unfair wrongs.  Today, in the midst of wallowing in the mire of offended feelings, God reminded me of a good and lovely gift of His in the form of friendship; specifically, the friendship of Persnicketta.  Looking back on our friendship, I see that Persnicketta made a lot of sacrifices . . . the first being to put up with my nonsense.  (In the words of Ephesians 4:2, ''bearing with me.")  One specific instance of sacrifice stands out in my mind:  it was a few years ago when I saw an ad for a Color Run in town.  It was just a few weeks away, so I signed up that very day.  As soon as I got a chance, I called Persnicketta to see if she could fit a 5K Color Run into her schedule.  It was expensive.  I had to see if she'd be willing to part with that kind of cash.  She was up for it, so we did it.  I only found over the following months that she'd been having various health issues.  So, on top of either clearing her schedule or spending a rare free day with me, and paying an exorbitant entrance fee, she ignored her health issues for the day and did the fun Color Run with me--because that's what friends do--they say "yes" even when it would be easier to say "no."  I hope I live that same sacrificial attitude with my friends (including the friend I married!)

This post brought tears to my eyes...I wish I were truly as self-sacrificial as you make me out to be. Thank you, friend.

None of it was fictitious. You really are that self-sacrificial, and you teach me how to be a better friend, wife, neighbor.
